The defence headquarters announced on Sunday that some Boko Haram members surrendered their weapons to security forces at Konduga, a community in Borno, where the military arrested a top commander of the sect and killed 60 insurgents earlier in the week.

The insurgents were reportedly arrested when they returned to the community to recover the bodies of their dead members.

While some were said to have pleaded for mercy, others have been cooperating with security agents by providing relevant information that could assist in preventing future attacks.

“Some of them submitted themselves and their weapons to the leadership of the troops in Konduga during a further campaign at the weekend,” read a statement on the defence website.

“As the heat on the terrorists continues, five terrorists surrendered on Saturday (September 20) with all their weapons to troops at Konduga pleading for mercy.”

The security forces claimed to have succeeded in repelling the attempts of the insurgents to carry out fresh attacks in Konduga.

It also stated that its recent operations led to the destruction of some vehicles and seizure of more weapons.
