Boko Haram storms Adamawa, attacks Gulak

Boko Haram insurgents appear to be expanding their territory into Adamawa state, launching a series of attacks on villages on Saturday.

Tanko Wazumtu, an aide to Adamawa state Acting Governor Alhaji Ahmed Umaru Fintiri, confirmed to Reuters that his father was killed in the attacks.

The latest attacks, coming on the heels of the sect’s take-over of several towns in Borno State, are seen as part of the group’s ambitious plan to launch an Islamic State in the north-east of Nigeria.

The militants stormed Gulak in the northern part of Adamawa state, near the hilly border with Cameroon where they are thought to have bases.

Sabo Lukas, who escaped to the Adamawa state capital Yola, told Reuters the militants had gone from house to house in Gulak shooting, and he had seen bodies of victims.

“As I’m talking to you they are still there killing people,” he told the news agency.

Gulak is about 50 km southwest of Gwoza, a border town in neighboring Borno state seized by Boko Haram last month and where the group’s leader, Abubakar Shekau, proclaimed a “Muslim territory” in the northeast.

The Nigerian military has launched an aerial battle in a bid to repel the insurgents who are now believed to have taken Bama, the second biggest town in Borno state.

I hope the Lamido of Adamawa is from the area , so that he can make good his threat to relocate to Cameroon, to be with his other subjects. This unravelling is really a great lesson in how not to be a nation. Nigeria will survive this nonsense , but a great lesson in nation building would have been learnt.
Let the Games continue for a little bit more. We need for some of our citizens to learn that there is more to life than political power. After the mayhem in the North East, the people will become better Nigerians, I am sure.
