Gunshots rock Buhari’s Borno campaign rally

Gunshots rock Buhari’s Borno campaign rally

Sounds of gunshots charged the air on Monday at the presidential campaign rally of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Maiduguri, Borno state, as security agents tried to control the wild crowd at the Ramat Square, venue of the rally.

The crowd hailed Muhammadu Buhari, presidential candidate of APC, as he arrived the venue in the presence of Kashim Shettima, governor of Borno state, and other top APC members in the state, after which he made his way to the podium.

But he had hardly sat for 10 minutes when his security aides escorted him out of the venue for unknown reasons.

Angry to see him leave, the crowd went on rampage, attempting to force their way into Buhari’s convoy in a manner to prevent him from leaving.

At that point, his security aides began shooting into the air, while the crowd responded by pelting the soldiers.

Buhari’s campaign team had dithered over the choice of a date for his campaign rally in Borno due to security concerns. When Monday was eventually picked, the state governor declared a holiday, saying it wanted to afford citizens the opportunity to welcome the retired general en masse.

The right report was that Bohari was driven out by the people and his convoy and his security was stoned. You have to report as is, not sentimental.

Please, who watched this thing live? I heard the crowd did not come to welcome Buhari but to “teach him a lesson” for sponsoring boko haram. @Thecable: That was why his security guys suddenly escorted him out of the venue (it wasn’t for unknopwn reasons). Even the governor was practically PUSHED into his car so they could run away. Heard it from a reliable source but I still want to hear from another witness… Why did he leave without addressing his supposed supporters? Abi no be dem declare public holiday? Dem no know say plenty people go come if dem declare holiday? Please, someone tell me the real reason they had to flee and even had to release gunshots like Boko Haram boys. But news papers, TV and Radio stations would not tell Nigerians that… I no know how much APC pay dem
