Daystar targets $1m fund for Ebola-hit nations

Daystar targets $1m fund for Ebola-hit nations

13:23 2014

Daystar Christian Centre, Lagos, intends to donate $1million to Liberia, Sierra Leone and Guinea to phase out the ravaging Ebola Virus Disease (EVD) in the West African countries.

While speaking at a service on Sunday, founder and senior pastor of the new-generation church, Reverend Sam Adeyemi, said the church would be giving to those nations to help in whatever necessary manner for the containment of the disease.

Adeyemi, who shared the “sad experience” of a footage showing the devastation of citizens of those countries by the disease, said he was moved with compassion to help the victims.

“As many people who want to join me in helping these nations, just write ‘Liberia’ at the back of your envelope, and put what you have,” he said.

“We would be giving a million dollars. We would take these donations just for the month of October only.”

Ebola broke out in February 2014 and has now hit six nations: Liberia, Sierra Leone, Guinea, Nigeria, Senegal, and the United States of America – the first three being the worst hit.

The virus has broken its own record, by beating its all-time high death toll, with a death toll of 3,439 as at October 1 – from 3,083 as at September 27.
