Reps demand full report of ‘$20bn’ NNPC audit

Reps demand full report of ‘$20bn’ NNPC audit

The federal house of representatives wants to be “fully” briefed by the federal government on the forensic audit report of the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) carried out by PriceWaterHouseCoopers (PWC).

PWC was directed to audit NNPC’s account last year, after Lamido Sanusi Lamido, the then governor of Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), claimed that the corporation had failed to remit $20 billion, an amount he later said was $12 billion.

After the audit report was presented to President Goodluck Jonathan (pictured) on February 3, 2015, NNPC said the abridged version released to the public had exonerated it for any wrongdoing.

However, on Thursday, Femi Gbajabiamila, the house minority leader, stated that the national assembly had not been briefed with regard to the content of the report, hence the government should make the full report available to it.

“The national assembly has not been briefed with regard to the content of the report,” Gbajabiamila said.

“The house resolves that the federal government make the report available to it.”

The house then put the motion to a voice vote, and the louder response supported the demand for the full report of the probe.

The house adjourned to February 24.
