Shekau releases new video, vows to kill Sanusi
Abubakar Shekau, the leader of Boko Haram, has released a new video, threatening to attack Muhammadu Sanusi II, the emir of Kano.
The Hausa service of the BBC posted the content of the video on its site.
In the 20-minute footage, the militant leader, who spoke in Arabic, Hausa and Kanuri languages, condemned Sanusi’s call on Nigerians to defend themselves against the sect.
At a prayer meeting in Kano in November, Sanusi had lamented the frequency of the sect’s attacks and urged Nigerians to defend themselves.
“These terrorists slaughter our boys and abduct our girls to force them into slavery,” he said.
“People should not sit idle and say prayer is the only solution. People should be made aware of the importance of being in a state of preparedness and make sure they acquire what they need to protect themselves. We should be ready to give our lives.”
Exactly a week after he made the call, suspected insurgents stormed the central mosque in the ancient city during Juma’at service, killing more than 100 people.
Shekau, who did not say whether Boko Haram was responsible for the attack or not, described the emir as a “fake Muslim”.
“I am talking to you, the emir of Kano, because of your recent utterances,” Shekau said.
“Listen to me, you are only but the King of Kano, King of Central Bank, King of money.
“Because you are made the emir of Kano that is why you called on the vigilante groups and hunters to attack us but the hunters and the vigilante groups will fail you. We would kill you and take your people as hostages.”
He said Boko Haram’s government “is defined as government of the Allah by the Allah and for the Allah”, not like “government as the government of the people by the people and for the people”.
“Emir of Kano Sanusi you are late, that our triumph is just for a period of time so you said,” he continued.
“Even your predecessors who are renowned idol worshipers in Islamic history like ‘Abujahal’ could not succeed fighting Islam. Yes you can say that our success is for a period of time, because you are a king of Bank and a loyal citizen of his country.”
Shekau has released several videos in the past, stating the position of the sect, which has launched a violent campaign on the country since 2009 when Mohammed Yusuf, its founder was killed by security forces under controversial circumstances.

Shekau is a big Liar. He cannt an wuld harm the Emir. Who gav him d nerves to threaten a ruler of our, just because the King admonished his subjects to b prepared. So dis Fool called Shekau expects that we wuld continue 2 sit idle out of Fear? We ar not afraid of them, they can kill us bt dey can’t take away our Freedom. We wuld sacrifice our lives n fight these illitrates for our freedom. Dis wuldnt continue forever, very soon we shall, we would defeat them. They can not harm Sanusi, we ar nt afraid of them. THE TIME HAS COME NOW TO CALL A SPADE A SPADE, OUR MASSES REFUSE TO ACCEPT THAT IT IS NOT THE MR. PRESIDENT THAT IS SPONSORING BOKO HARAM. THEN SHOULD REALISE THAT CONDEMNATION IS NOT THE SOLUTION BUT RALLY ROUND THE GOVERNEMNT TO BRING THIS WHOLE ISSUES OF BOKO HARAM TO AN END.

Common boy! When one’s date of death or the type of death one will die is announced, then the fear is over! An infidel like Shekau threatened to kill Allah’s anointed Monarch? He is a joker. The Sanusi that defied all entreaties and still led prayers at the mosque in Kano where the infidel killed scores will now be afraid of the Shekau’s boastful threat?
