President Muhammadu Buhari met with Senate President Bukola Saraki and Yakubu Dogara, speaker of the house of representatives, on Tuesday.

The lawmakers arrived at the presidential villa in Abuja, at 12pm.

The meeting, which was the first Buhari held with leaders of the national since he returned to the country after a 49-day medical vacation in the UK, took place few minutes after the senate rejected Hameed Ali, comptroller-general of Nigeria customs service, excuse of not appearing before it on Wednesday.

The senate had summoned Ali over the plan of customs to seize vehicles without paid duty. He was also told to appear before in his uniform.

Ali had written to the senate, saying he would not be available on Wednesday owing to a management meeting at the customs on the same day.

His letter irked the lawmakers and they passed a resolution afterwards that he must appear on Wednesday.

It is unclear if Ali’s disagreement with the upper legislative chamber featured at the meeting.

Ali’s relationship with Buhari dates back to the days both men served in the army.
