The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) on Thursday revealed that a total of 1,529,636 voters were registered to vote in the Adamawa by-election scheduled for October 11, 2014.
Mr Kasim Gaidam, the state resident electoral commissioner, said this in Yola during the distribution of soft copies of the voter register to the 13 political parties that fielded candidates for the governorship by-election.
Gaidam said the exercise was to assist the political parties to add value to their political campaigns.
“The register of voters for the state stands at 1,529,636 and there are six units in Yola North, Mubi and Numan LGAs respectively,” he said.
The commissioner said that INEC headquarters was yet to communicate with it on the arrangement for units with less than 50 voters.
Gaidam said that the update of the voter register would end in October, while the registration will give opportunity to those who have not registered and those with challenges to register and obtain their permanent voter cards for the 2015 general election.
He advised the political parties to use the register given to them positively for the good conduct of the election, as youths between the age group of 18 and 35 years constitute approximately 43 per cent of total voters registered in the state.
He said with the exception of electorates in Adamawa north senatorial district, no one would be allowed to vote without the permanent voter card.
