’10 litres must be 10 litres’ — NMDPRA warns filling stations against under-dispensing

The Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority (NMDPRA) says filling stations must comply with regulations and avoid under-dispensing fuel.

Godwin Ogbe, NMDPRA’s Kogi state coordinator, spoke during the opening of WALVICOLA Oil & Gas on Thursday.

Ogbe said WALVICOLA adhered to the required standards in setting up the new filling station.

“We do not tolerate filling stations under-dispensing fuel to customers,” he said.

Ogbe urged the public to report any filling station suspected of under-dispensing fuel, stressing that such outlets would face appropriate sanctions.

“We have penalised many erring stations across the state already,” he said.

The NMDPRA official said deregulation allows stations to sell based on depot prices but emphasised the need for transparency and fairness to consumers.

“Any station found cheating will face the full weight of the law. Ten litres must mean ten litres. If not, your licence will be suspended, and a heavy fine imposed,” he said.

The state coordinator said WALVICOLA secured all necessary licences and complied with regulatory standards, including calibrated dispensing metres.

He encouraged other stations to emulate the company’s example and avoid dishonest practices like under-dispensing fuel.

On his part, Pius Kolawole, WALVICOLA’s managing director, said the station aims to provide quality fuel at affordable prices.

He said the outlet would address fuel scarcity and high prices in Lokoja.

Kolawole said the Lokoja branch is the company’s sixth station, reflecting its commitment to wider coverage in Kogi state.

Also speaking, Olusegun Joseph, Kogi commissioner for environment, said the company’s efforts would stimulate the state’s economy and create jobs.

He said the investment is timely and aligns with state policies for growth and development.

Joseph said the government remains committed to fostering a business-friendly environment for WALVICOLA and other investors.
