Junior Chamber International, Nigeria (JCI Nigeria) will honour Ten Outstanding Young Persons (TOYP) at an award ceremony on Saturday.

The TOYP, a global initiative of JCI, which was inaugurated in 1983, has honoured Chinese actor, Jackie Chan; for US president, John F. Kennedy (JFK); Henry Kissinger, Elvis Presley, and over 300 individuals across 57 nations.

It is being replicated in Nigeria and focuses on recognising young people who are making giant strides in their chosen fields.

The 10 winners are Adebola Olomo, Oresanwo Lolade, Odjenima Atinuke, Araba Steven Omogbolahan, Uyi-Aivinhenyo Patricia, Abdulkadir Mukhtar, Onitiju Ibukun, Akintayo Stephen, Steve Harris and Olawale Rotimi.

Seun Osikalu, the 2015 national president of JCI Nigeria, said the honourees were selected by an international panel of  judges.

According a statement issued by JCI, the recognition is basically to motivate other young people and encourage them in their bid to be responsible leaders in the society.

“This year’s TOYP is coming with an unprecedented class, which is reflected through the quality of shortlisted nominees, the quality of the judges, the globally reputed audit partners, the organisation of the grand finale of the event, amongst other things,” the statement read.

“Junior Chamber International Nigeria has been participating at the international level over the years, and beyond hosting the Nigerian edition, we will be taking advantage of the platform of this year’s programme to re-reinforce the presence of the JCI in Nigeria.”

Nigerians who are above 18 years but less than 40 years and can be said to have excelled in their chosen fields or are continuously creating positive change, are eligible for the award.
