Eleven members of the National Youths Service Corps (NYSC) undergoing orientation in Taraba have contracted COVID-19.

According to NAN, Innocent Vakkai, the state commissioner for health, broke the news at a press conference in Jalingo, the state capital, on Monday.

Vakkai said the corps members are currently receiving treatments at various isolation centres in the state.

The commissioner urged residents of the state to be cautious of the pandemic and also appealed to them to always observe COVID-19 protocols to mitigate the spread of the disease.

Owing to the increase in confirmed cases, the presidential task force on COVID-19 had said there are indications that the country has entered its second wave of infections.

It, therefore, warned Nigerians to be cautious during the festive period and advised them to avoid large gatherings and non-essential trips.

To mitigate the spread of the virus, some state governments have also introduced new measures including banning street parties, picnics, and other activities that can lead to an increase in infections.
