‘15 worshippers killed’ as terrorists attack mosque in Zamfara

Suspected terrorists have reportedly killed at least 15 worshippers at a mosque in Ruwan Jema town in Bukkuyun LGA of Zamfara state.

According to Zagazola Makama, a publication focused on the Lake Chad region, the bandits attacked the mosque during the Jumat prayers on Friday.

The terrorists were said to have opened fire on the worshipers after invading the town on motorcycles.

Many worshippers were said to have sustained injuries during the attack on the mosque.

The incident happened amid military bombardments of terrorists’ hideouts in Zamfara and other parts of northern Nigeria.

“The terrorists, who rode on motorcycles, invaded the mosque and opened fire on worshippers, leading to the death of 15 persons on the spot, while many other victims sustained various degrees of injuries,” the publication quoted a source as saying.

Mohammed Shehu, Zamfara police spokesperson, did not respond to calls and messages seeking comment on the attack.

This is not the first time insurgents will launch attacks on worshippers during prayers in mosques in Zamfara.

On September 2, gunmen invaded a mosque in Zugu community in Bukkuyum LGA of the state, abducting many worshippers.

The gunmen were said to have disguised themselves as worshippers.
