UPDATED: 18 killed in multiple bomb attacks in Maiduguri

The police in Borno have said 18 persons were killed in multiple suicide bomb attacks at Muna Gari community in Konduga local government area of Maiduguri.

TheCable had earlier learnt that the attacks, two of which took place at a mosque, left 23 people injured.

Four suicide bombers detonated improvised explosive devices (IED) in the community on Wednesday evening.

Bello Danbatta, the spokesperson of the civilian joint task force (CJTF), confirmed the incident.

He told TheCable that the attack occurred around 6:16pm when Muslims faithful were observing the Magrib prayers.

Danbatta said the bombers, comprising of two males and two females, detonated their explosives in two separate locations in the area.

“The two males detonated their explosives in a mosque while the other two females targeted the resident in the area and detonated their IED,” he said.

“The victims were rushed to the general hospital while the dead ones were taken to the morgue.”

Ismaila Abubakar, an eyewitness, told TheCable that four of his family members were killed in the mosque.

Abubakar had initially counted sixteen corpses.

“We first heard two loud explosions, followed by another two loud explosions. My brothers who went to pray in the mosques were all killed,” he said.
