Two mobile policemen lost their lives on Tuesday when bullion vans belonging to the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) were ambushed by robbers at Hawan Kibo, along the Jos-Abuja road, in Plateau state.

The bullion vans, it was gathered, were headed for Abuja.

A resident of Hawan Kibo told TheCable that “bullets started flying around after a military checkpoint, at about 10am, and it was later discovered that it was CBN bullion vans that were attacked”.

“All residents of the community fled for their lives,” he added. “The corpses of two security personnel were seen when the gunshots had died down.”

As of the time of filing this report, it was unclear if the robbers succeeded in making away with cash.

Tyopev Terna, an assistant superintendent of police and public relations officer of the police in the state, confirmed the attack but said he did not have the details.
