Festus Keyamo, spokesman of President Muhammadu Buhari’s 2019 campaign, says the president currently has “close to 1,000” support groups rooting for him ahead of next year’s election.

Writing via his Twitter handle on Saturday, Keyamo said this kind of support is unprecedented in Nigeria’s recent history.

The president’s re-election bid is being engineered by the Buhari Campaign Organisation (BCO) with some other groups such as Buhari 2019 presidential support committee, Good Governance Ambassadors of Nigeria (GOGAN) also involved.

Keyamo said while Buhari enjoys the “massive” support, other groups emerging in favour of the opposition are only in search of funds.

According to him, “all those pockets of groups emerging for various Presidential candidates of the main opposition are just looking for funding, nothing more.

“But today, we have close to 1000 Buhari support groups operating selflessly. No politician in recent history enjoys this kind of support!”

Earlier on Saturday, the president asked his supporters to halt the campaign for his reelection for now.
