Bode George, a chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), says the party has so many credible candidates to compete with President Muhammadu Buhari in 2019.
Speaking during a Channels TV programme on Sunday, George said the party’s candidates can slog it out with the president at any level.
“There are many sound hands who can compete on any level, at any stage with President Buhari,” he said. “Our party has quality people; so many at our call and beck.”
He added that the party had learnt its lesson after losing the 2015 presidential election to the All Progressives Congress (APC).
“We have done a post moterm analysis. We have rebranded the party in terms of following those ethics stated and established by our founding fathers,” he said.
“If a woman marries two husbands, she will not appreciate which one is better. Those that left the party left because they were aggrieved on certain issues which have been looked at. We have spoken within ourselves, did a solid post-moterm analysis and came out with solutions.”
Some of those within the PDP nursing presidential ambition are Atiku Abubakar, former vice-president; Sule Lamido, former governor of Jigawa; Ayodele Fayose, governor of Ekiti and — though not confirmed yet — Rabiu Kwankwaso, former governor of Kano.
