Femi Olaniyi, Lagos chairman of the Social Democratic Party (SDP), has urged President Bola Tinubu to ensure that the 2024 appropriation bill of N27 trillion does not fail to renew the hopes of Nigerians.

On Wednesday, Tinubu presented the 2024 appropriation bill before the joint sitting of the national assembly.

He said the budget would cement macroeconomic stability, reduce the deficit, and increase capital spending and allocation to reflect the eight priority areas of his administration.

Speaking with reporters on Thursday in Lagos, Olaniyi said there must be a departure from the non-performing budgets of the past.

He applauded Tinubu’s focus on internal security and economic restoration in the budget.

“The 2024 Appropriation Bill is truly remarkable because of its focus on internal security and economic revamping to address galloping inflation and threatening poverty,” NAN quoted Olaniyi as saying.

“We are hopeful that this budget will truly renew the hope of Nigerians as we have seen numerous budgets in the past without corresponding improvement in the wellbeing of the people.

“We are truly optimistic for better budget performance with Tinubu’s ingenuity. He did it in Lagos state before; he can do it again.

“This budget should and must not fail to rejig this country and reposition it.”

He said the 2024 budget will address key sectors and needs of Nigerians, adding that with diligent implementation strategies, Nigerians would soon rejoice.

Olaniyi also said the SDP is fully prepared to support the Tinubu administration in building a prosperous nation that would create happiness for all.
