In a statement on Friday, the country’s National Disaster Management Organisation said the deceased include 12 women and nine men.

According to the organisation, eight persons were rescued alive after rescue operations at the site began.

Earlier on Tuesday, the Church of Prosperity collapsed in Akyem Batabi town, leaving several worshippers trapped just after conclusion of a prayer meeting.

A survivor told local media that about 60 people were inside the building when it came down.

Investigation to ascertain the cause of the incident is in progress and Isaac Ofori, the church’s founder, is said to be assisting the police.

Nana Akufo-Addo, Ghana’s president, on Thursday, sent condolences to victims of the disaster.
