Twenty-two people were killed and about 59 were injured in a suicide attack on Manchester Arena, UK, at the end of Ariana Grande’s concert on Monday night.
Greater Manchester Police chief constable, Ian Hopkins, said the lone male attacker was carrying an improvised explosive device which he detonated.
The attacker died in the blast.
American singer, Grande, was said to have just finished her last song and left the stage when the huge explosion sounded.
Video footage showed people fleeing in tears from the venue after bangs rang out immediately after the concert finished.
Shaken and bloodied concertgoers were pictured being helped by emergency services outside the concert while armed police patrolled the arena.
“We were making our way out and when we were right by the door there was a massive explosion and everybody was screaming,” concert-goer Catherine Macfarlane told Reuters.
“It was a huge explosion — you could feel it in your chest. It was chaotic. Everybody was running and screaming and just trying to get out.”
Britain is on its second-highest alert level of “severe” meaning an attack by militants is considered highly likely.
The terror attack is the worst to hit Britain since the suicide bomb attacks on central London in July 2005.
Prime Minister Theresa May has suspended her general election campaign as a result of the terror attack.
Manchester Arena, the largest indoor arena in Europe, is a popular concert and sporting venue.
