At least 24 people have reportedly been killed after a female suicide bomber attacked a local food joint in Konduga LGA of Borno state.

Zagazola Makama, a counter-insurgency publication focused on the Lake Chad region, said the incident occurred at about 10pm on Friday, leaving several others severely injured.

Citing police sources, the publication said the attacker detonated the IED at the food joint.

Makama said the body of the suicide bomber was torn apart by the blast, with only the head recovered.

The publication said the bodies of the deceased have been deposited in a morgue, while the injured victims were taken to a nearby hospital where they are receiving treatment.

A joint security team — comprising military and police officers, civilian joint task force (CJTF), and local hunters — has reportedly visited the scene of the bombing.

The publication said the area has since been cordoned off while security has been heightened across Konduga to prevent further attacks.

The Borno police command did not respond to a request for comment when contacted by TheCable.

In August 2024, at least 17 people were killed after a suspected suicide bomber attacked a market in Konduga.
