The violence rocking Rivers state continued on Monday, as some arsonists coordinated bomb attacks on three different courts across the state.

The incidents, which affected happened simultaneously in Port Harcourt, Degema  and Isiokpo, occured in the early hours of the day.

Confirming the incident, Ahmad Muhammad, the spokesman for the Rivers state police command, condemned the act and said the police would ensure that justice is served.

“The Rivers state police command wishes to confirm that in the early hours of Monday 02/0/2015 coordinated attacks were launched on judiciary court premises at Degema, Isiokpo and Port Harcourt with explosive devices suspected to be dynamite by unidentified and unpatriotic assailants,” Muhammad said in a statement.

“Minimal damages were recorded in Port Harcourt and Isiokpo scenes without affecting the court building and documents while at Degema the court building was razed down and documents burnt. No live was lost.

“Areas are now under Police control while Police Bomb Disposal Unit has commenced discreet investigation in earnest.

“The Command has already put in place efforts that will lead to the arrest of the actors and sponsors of the attacks while soliciting for the usual cooperation from members of the public to assist the police in this regard. The Command further reiterates its determination to provide adequate security to judicial workers and all courts in the State.”

Unconfirmed report also had it that hoodlums broke into a high court in the Omoku area of the state, carting away vital documents.

Rivers has recorded the highest cases of violence in the country in the build-up to the general election.

The Judiciary Staff Union of Nigeria (JUSUN) suspended its eight months old strike over the weekend and hopes were high that activities would commence in courts across the state.
