3 robbery suspects burnt to death in Kogi

Three persons suspected to be armed robbers were on Friday morning burnt to death at Orunu village in Ofu local government area of Kogi.

The armed suspects reportedly blocked the Orunu-Idah road junction and were about to commence their operation, unknown to them, the youths of the area who were disgusted with their nefarious activities, had formed a vigilance group.

A eyewitness told NAN that the robbers numbering five had hardly settled down to business when the youths emerged from different directions and pounced on them.

They seized three of the suspected armed robbers beat and set them ablaze, while the other two escaped into the bush.

Aya Williams, the state police public relations officer, who confirmed the incident, said the police had recovered the remains of the three suspected robbers and released them to their relations for burial.

He said though no arrest had been made, the police are investigating the incident.
