After 3-week break, reps adjourn plenary to mourn lawmaker

The house of representatives on Tuesday postponed legislative business to Wednesday to mourn the death of a lawmaker.

The house, which resumed plenary after three weeks, adjourned to mourn Bello Sani, who represented Mashi/Dutsi federal constituency.

The death of Sani brings to three the total number of lawmakers who have died since the lower legislative chamber was inaugurated in June 2015.

Sani was a member of the Katsina state house of assembly before he was elected to house on the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC).

He was also the chairman of Mashi local government.

The lawmaker attended Mashi primary school in 1974, government day secondary school Mashi and Hassan Usman Polytechnic, Katsina in 1996. He died at the age of 51.

Yakubu Dogara, the speaker, described Bello as “humane, principled and a cosmopolitan  who interacted freely with all members.”

He died on Wednesday.
