Mokwa community in Niger state after flood
The Niger State Emergency Management Agency (NSEMA) says the death toll from the flooding in Mokwa LGA has risen to 151.
Ibrahim Hussaini, the agency’s spokesperson, provided the update on Saturday morning.
Three communities, including Tiffin Maza and Anguwan Hausawa in Mokwa LGA, were submerged on Wednesday night after hours of torrential rainfall.
Hussaini said 11 people sustained injuries while 3,018 have been displaced.

He added that 265 houses and 503 households were affected.
The incident comes five months after Umar Bago, Niger governor, announced that the state had secured a $10 million World Bank facility to arrest gully erosion in some parts of Mokwa.
The governor said competent contractors had been identified for the project.

On Friday, President Bola Tinubu directed the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) and security agencies to intensify rescue and relief operations in the affected communities.
