424 Nigerians evacuated from Sudan arrive Abuja — 1,471 evacuees so far

The Nigerians in Diaspora Commission (NiDCOM) says another set of Nigerians evacuated from Sudan has arrived in the federal capital territory (FCT), Abuja.

The commission said in a Twitter message on Sunday that 424 Nigerians were evacuated from Egypt and arrived at about 12:30 pm in Nigeria via Azman and Tarco airlines.

The evacuees were the sixth and seventh batches of Nigerians to have arrived in the country since the evacuation exercise started on May 3.

According to NiDCOM, a total of 1,471 evacuees have arrived in Nigeria so far with no record of death.

“The 6th and 7th matches of Evacuees: 424 nationals that departed Aswan International Airport, Egypt, landed at Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport around 12:30 pm local time on May 7 via Tarco and Azman Air respectively,” the statement reads.

“The breakdown so far; first and second batch; Military Jet C13 (99 people), AirPeace Fight (277), third batch; Tarco Air (130), fourth batch; Tarco Air (131), fifth batch; MaxAir (410), sixth batch; Tarco Air (102), seventh batch; Azman Air (322). Making a total of 1,471 evacuees so far.

“We await the arrival of the AirPeace flight tomorrow to convey everyone remaining in Port Sudan.

“The good news is, no Nigerian life has been lost so far.”

The development comes less than 24 hours after some evacuees arrived in the country.

NiDCOM had earlier assured that about 1,700 remaining Nigerians in Sudan would be evacuated “in a matter of days”.
