Ali Isah, a house of representatives member from Gombe state, has been recommended for the minority whip position by the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) northern caucus.

The 10th house of representatives and senate will be inaugurated on Tuesday.

In a communique issued on Saturday, the caucus said 49 lawmakers-elect chose Isah over Beni Lar, a lawmaker from Plateau, and Laori Komati, a lawmaker from Adamawa, both of whom are interested in the position.

The communique said the decision to go with Isah is based on the role he will play in assisting the next speaker as a principal officer in the lower legislative chamber.

The All Progressives Congress (APC) had earlier nominated Tajudeen Abbas, a lawmaker from Kaduna, and Benjamin Kalu, lawmaker from Imo, as speaker and deputy.

Despite the party’s decision, Idris Wase, deputy speaker, as well as Yusuf Gadji and Muktar Betara have continued to pursue their speakership bids.
