67 drug traffickers convicted in Edo in 2023, says NDLEA

The Edo command of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) says its operatives convicted 67 drug traffickers in the state in 2023.

Speaking with journalists on Sunday, Buba Wakawa, the sector commander of the agency in the state, said the convicts were among the suspects arrested between January and December of the year under review.

Wakawa noted that of the 173 suspects arrested and charged to court during the period, 67 were sentenced to various terms of imprisonment.

He said about 106 cases were still pending at different stages in the courts.

The sector commander explained that during the year, 414 drug addicts were arrested by the drug reduction unit across the state.

According to him, the addicts were arrested, counselled and reunited with their families.

Wakawa urged residents to support the agency with useful information and desist from selling their lands for cultivation of drugs, in order to ensure success of the fight against illicit substances.
