The Ekiti state house of assembly has asked Kayode Fayemi, former governor of the state, minister to appear before it on Tuesday.

The assembly said it decided to invite him over the alleged diversion of N850 million State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB) counterpart fund during his tenure as governor.

Fayemi is currently the minister of solid minerals development. This will be the third time they will summon him.

During its plenary on Thursday, the Ekiti house said the former governor was responsible for the set back witnessed in the state’s education sector.

“The house is empowered by the constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria under Section 129, Sub section 6, to issue a warrant of arrest to bring him before the court,” Samuel Omotosho, a member of the house said.

Contributing to the debate, Ekundayo Akinleye, alleged that the “damage” done by Fayemi was responsible for the “high level of illiteracy in the state.”

On her part, Titilayo Owolabi said the former governor should be compelled to obey the summon as “nobody is above the law’’.

On Wednesday, Fayemi filed a N3 billion law suit against Omotoso and Lere Olayinka, spokesman to Ayodele Fayose, Ekiti governor.

The duo had alleged that Fayemi took N1.5 billion from Ekiti treasury and gave it to Muhammadu Buhari, the then presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congress (AP).
