The Kano state police command says it has arrested one Nurudeen Abubakar of Unguwa Uku quarters in Kano for allegedly impregnating his 14-year-old daughter. 

In a statement on Tuesday, Magaji Majia, the command spokesman, said the girl had survived three abortions as a result of the assault from her father, who is 40-year-old.

He said within two weeks, the command had recorded 34 cases of sexual assault.

Majia added that one Samuel John, a pastor in the state, is also in police custody for allegedly raping 13-year-old twin sisters as well as their 11-year-old younger one.

He said two other persons – Dahiru Haruna and Hamza Lawan – have also been arrested for alleged conspiracy and acting “in an unnatural manner” against their nine-year-old male victim.

Similarly, one Musbahu Ibrahim, 25, is also in custody, the statement said, for allegedly raping his cousin sister “repeatedly.”

While stating that all the suspects have confessed to the said crimes, the police spokesman regretted the “persistent cases of rape, incest and unnatural offences clamouring up to an unprecedented level.”

He called on members of the public to collaborate with the police in fighting the sad development by keenly and closely looking into their neighbourhood with a view of detecting such unruly behaviour.
