Mauricio Pochettino’s perfect start as Tottenham’s manager came to an end at White Hart Lane, after a Alberto Moreno’s solo strike capped a dominant Liverpool performance with the Reds winning 3-0.

The Merseyside produced the ideal response to Monday’s defeat at Manchester City, with Raheem Sterling, Steven Gerrard and a goal-of-the-season effort from Moreno condemning Spurs at home.

The first defeat of the Pochettino era would have been worse if high-profile debutant Mario Balotelli had taken the chances that came his way. Spurs will have to thank the Italian whose clear rustiness was on display.

Last term, Liverpool followed up a 5-0 win at White Hart Lane with a 4-0 triumph at Anfield and it looked like a similar scoreline would be on the cards when Sterling swept home after a fine team move in the eighth minute.

Meanwhile, Arsenal’s £35m summer signing Alexis Sanchez scored his first Premier League goal, but it wasn’t enough to help The Gunners claim all-three points at newly-promoted Leicester.

The Chilean opened the scoring at the King Power stadium in the 20th minute, but it was midfield ace Santi Cazorla who should take the credit.

The Spaniard cleverly chipped the ball over the Leicester defence into the area where it was met by striker Yaya Sanogo.

The French striker miscued his effort, but the ball fell to Sanchez who made no mistake from close range to put the visitors in front.

The lead didn’t last long, however, as Leicester’s own star signing drew them level two minutes later.

Leonardo Ulloa, who joined from Brighton in an £8m deal, scored on his Foxes debut against Everton and repeated the feat again.

It came after the Argentine headed home Jeff Schlupp’s left-wing cross from the edge of the area.

The home side will no doubt be happy with a point as they bid to secure their Premier League survival. However, Arsenal will feel it was two points dropped in their bid to claim their first title in 10 years.

At Villa Park, Aston Villa survived a late scare to secure a well-deserved victory over Hull City after first-half goals from Gabriel Agbonlahor and Andreas Weimann.

The Tigers threatened a comeback in the second period after Nikica Jelavic’s strike but Paul Lambert’s men held firm.

Villa are still unbeaten going into the international break and it was only their fourth home success of the year, and incredibly, Agbonlahor’s opening goal was his first Villa Park strike for nine months.
