Former vice president and member of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Alhaji Abubakar Atiku, has warned his supporters to desist from using the BringBackAtiku2015 hashtag.

Some of Atiku’s followers on Twitter had appropriated the BringBackOurGirls hash-tag in campaigning for him, but he however frowned at it, noting that the hash-tag is too sensitive to be used for political reasons.

“I do not approve of this hash-tag. Kindly stop using it. It’s insensitive,” the former vice president who has indicated interest in running for president in 2015 wrote on his Twitter page.

“I’ve seen a few followers tweeting #bringbackAtiku. This is very insensitive and wrong. Please stop this hash-tag immediately. Any variations of the bring back hashtag should not be used for politics in any form.”

Supporters of President Goodluck Jonathan had parodied #BringBackOurGirls to #BringBackGoodluck2015 in banners dotting the federal capital territory, but the president was forced to openly disown the act following a stinging Washington Post piece.

Nevertheless, one of the leaders of the #BringBackOurGirls team and former minister of education, Oby Ezekwesili, described the action of the president’s supporters as “shameful” and a “mockery” of the pains of 219 girls looking up to the government to rescue them from the grip of Boko Haram.

Well done sir. This is very insensitive, wrong and a mockery to both the parents and people of chibok over their missing daughters. Please lets stop it and pray for the release of the innocent school girls who our FG has abandoned for over 150 days and counting.
