Manchester City left it late to secure victory over Aston Villa at Villa Park in the English Premier League (EPL).

City came close to breaking the deadlock on a number of occasions, but were frustrated until the 81st minute.

Talisman Yaya Toure finally broke down Villa’s defensive resolve, firing his low effort past Brad Guzan.

Sergio Aguero secured the win when he placed his effort beyond the American just six minutes later.

At Anfield, Adam Lallana scored his first goal for Liverpool since joining from Southampton in the summer, as Brendan Rodgers’ side returned to winning ways against West Brom.

The midfielder put his side ahead on the verge of half-time, and despite Saido Berahino’s goal on resumption of the second half, fellow England international Jordan Henderson was on hand to put the Reds back in front.

Rodgers took a bold step to rest Mario Balotelli on the bench after his uninspiring displays for the Anfield side since his summer move from Milan.

At the KC Stadium, Mohamed Diame’s third goal since his summer switch from West Ham and a late Nikica Jelavic strike were enough to see Hull City to a 2-0 win over Crystal Palace.

Diame rose well to head Andrew Robertson’s pinpoint cross beyond Julian Speroni to put the Tigers ahead.

In the dying minutes of the match, Jelavic ran onto a defence-splitting pass from Jake Livermore and set himself before slotting the ball beyond the Palace keeper.

City were good value for the win – their first at the KC Stadium this season – which sees them leapfrog their visitors on the log.

Leicester City and Burnley played out a 2-2 draw at the King Power Stadium.

The Foxes took the lead in the 33rd minute when Jeffrey Schlupp shot home from close range after connecting with Riyad Mahrez’s cross.

Burnley equalised just six minutes later through Michael Kightly, who shot home from inside the box.

Leicester, though, made it 2-1 almost immediately when Mahrez headed in from just yards out. But Burnley stepped up their game in the second half and scored the equaliser in the sixth minute of injury time through Ross Wallace.

Steven Fletcher scored twice to give Sunderland a 3-1 win over Stoke for their first Premier League victory of the season.

Fletcher made it 2-1 in the 23rd minute and then put the result beyond doubt in the 79th as Sunderland ended a run of five draws in six games and joined Stoke on eight points from seven games.

Swansea City and Newcastle played out an entertaining 2-2 draw at the Liberty Stadium.

The Swans led twice through Wilfried Bony and Wayne Routledge but Papiss Cisse scored twice to draw level.

Alan Pardew’s side are still without a win after seven games.
