Adams Oshiomhole, a former governor of Edo state, is currently meeting with the members of the house of representatives in the All Progressives Congress (APC).

The meeting is related to his ambition to succeed John Odigie-Oyegun as chairman of the party.

The meeting, which is ongoing inside the national assembly, has Yakubu Dogara, the speaker of the house, and other principal officers in attendance.

Addressing the lawmakers, Oshiomhole promised to “build healthy bridge” between the members of the executive and legislature in the APC if elected the party chairman.

He also promised to “develop appropriate tools and identify people with the experience and the connection to be able to bring to effect the principle of separation of powers”.

“The only thing that makes democracy different from dictatorship is the parliament. How you manage parliament is different from how the executive manages the council,” the former labour leader said, adding: “My background prepares me for this kind of role.”

He further said: “I am aware of the problems that confront our party. The bigger the party, the higher the likelihood of problems arising. So I am not surprised by the amount of division and uneasiness in any quarters within the party.

“I am convinced that given the privilege, these things can be resolved. No one needs to go with nothing for someone else to have something. We all can go with something.

“Given your support which will be a very critical one and working with you, under God’s guidance, I’m convinced that we can, together, strengthen our party. We will all see a new APC capable of providing the leadership we all will be proud of.”
