Anti-graft war: Kenyan govt officials to take lie detector test

Anti-graft war: Kenyan govt officials to take lie detector test

Kenyan President Uhuru Kenyatta has ordered all top government officials to undergo a lie detector test as part of a corruption crackdown.

Kenyatta said the test would determine employee “integrity” and that it’s just one of the measures to deal with the menace.

The order is part of measures to tackle graft after some officials and business people were detained for alleged theft of public funds.

“All heads of procurement and accounts in government ministries, departments, agencies and parastatals will undergo fresh vetting including polygraph testing, to determine their integrity and suitability,” the Kenyan president said.

“Those who shall fail the vetting (through lie-detector tests) will stand suspended. I expect this exercise to be concluded before the start of the new financial year (2018/2019).”

The next financial year begins on July 1.

At least 54 persons are facing charges over the stealing of nearly $100 million at the National Youth Service (NYS), a state agency.

Only 24 of them have been arrested while the rest are still at large.
