The National Information Centre (NIC) is now open to concerned members of the public who may wish to seek further clarifications on the ongoing anti-terror campaign and the search and rescue effort in the northeast, Mike Omeri, coordinator of the centre and director-general of the National Orientation Agency (NOA) said on Monday.

NIC was set up in April to provide regular updates to the public and the media on the government’s actions with regard to the campaign against insurgency in the northeast, including efforts to rescue the abducted Chibok girls.

Omeri added that the opening up of the centre to the public was to constantly provide Nigerians with information regarding the campaign against insurgency in the country.

“In this regard, the BringBackOurGirls (BBOG) groups in Nigeria are invited to its media briefing on Tuesday October 14, 2014,” he said.

“The event is scheduled to take place at the National Briefing Centre located at the National Orientation Agency (NOA) headquarters, Abuja at 2.00pm.

“The meeting is expected to give an update to concerned citizens on efforts by the security forces to end insurgency, rescue all those in captivity with insurgent groups and return normalcy to troubled parts of the country.”
