Asaba 2018: Udo-Gabriel, Ntia-Obong, Ogunlewe qualify for 100m final
Nigeria’s Joy Udo-Gabriel ran 11.68 seconds to qualify for the women’s 100m final of the African Athletics Championship in Asaba, Delta state.
Cote D’Ivoire’s Marie Jose Ta Lou, Ghana’s Janet Amponsah also advanced to the final.
Other athletes in the final include Nigeria’s Ntia-Obong Mercy, Gina Bass of Gambia, Tebogo Mamatu of South Africa, Helutie Hor of Ghana and Sabele Tsaone of Botswana.
In the men’s 100 meters semi-final race, Nigeria’s Ogunlewe Adeseye came second to qualify for the final clocking 10:39 seconds in his heat.
His compatriots Ogho-Oghene Egwero and Enoch Adegoke failed to qualify from their respective heats.
The final will feature the South Africa duo of Akanni Simbine and Simon Magakwe, Karabo Mothibi of Botswana, Ivorians; Ben Youssef Miete and Gueu Arthur Cisse, Ngoni Makusha of Zimbabwe and Gilbert Maseko Hainuca of Namibia.
The men and women’s 100m final will take place by 2:30pm Nigerian time.
