The All Progressives Congress (APC) caucus in the house of representatives has called for a thorough investigation into the invasion of National Assembly Complex.

Armed operatives of the Department of State Services (DSS) had invaded the complex on Tuesday, blocking the entrance for about seven hours.

It is not yet clear why the siege occurred but the agency’s director-general has since been fired over the incident.

Addressing journalists after its meeting in Abuja on Thursday, the APC lawmakers described the invasion as a “rape on Nigeria’s democracy.”

Femi Gbajabiamila, majority leader of the house, who spoke on behalf of the caucus, said the group is seeking a thorough investigation of the incident to unravel circumstances surrounding it.

“You are aware of what happened here when this institution was shutdown by the DSS. As a caucus, we deliberated this and the facts involved. No one here would accept the rape on democracy witnessed here,” Gbajabiamila said.

He denied the allegation that the APC lawmakers were behind the invasion as a ploy to impeach Senate President Bukola Saraki.

He also tackled the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) for “playing politics” with the incident, accusing the party of overseeing a worse incident under its administration.

“Unfortunately, this has been given partisan colouration by the PDP and we know the worse happened under them in 2014,” he said, adding: “We call for thorough investigation to reveal what happened.”

TheCable gathered that Lawal Daura, the ex—DSS DG, is currently being interrogated by the police over the incident.
