Boro Haram ‘may seize 3 states’ in 3 months
Zanna Mustapha, the deputy governor of Borno state, on Monday urged the federal government to redouble its effort to check the excesses of Boko Haram insurgents in the northeastern part of the country.
Mustapha made the call while speaking to journalists in Yola, capital of Adamawa state.
He expressed worries over the rising daredevilry of Boko Haram attacks, saying Borno, Yobe and Adamawa – the three worst-hit states in the region – are seriously under threat.
“With the effrontery of the insurgents who seem to be capturing territories with ease, very soon, the three north-eastern states will become history if urgent steps are not taken to address the situation,” he said.
“If the federal government will not add extra efforts, in the next three months, the three north-east states will not be in existence. Rather than going after the insurgents, it is the insurgents who are going after us.”
Like former vice-president, Atiku Abubakar, Mustapha said the situation had reached the point where international assistance should be sought.
“Let us appeal to the international community to come to our rescue otherwise in the next few months the three states may not exist.”
Its not as if the federal government is not making geniue sincere efforts to end this insurgency, but the actual problem is from the military itself. The military is very corrupt and also some of them are sabotaging the Federal govt’s efforts, dey steal the entitlements meant for the boys, they sale information to boko haram, they refuse to pay the fallen soldiers family there entitlements. As such the couragement and morale of the boys are very low, compared to that of BH. The war wuld be difficult to win if these things are not soughted out. The soldiers don’t want to fight and die bcos their oga’s are sitting in the office eating all the money and have left the boys to die for notting. The boys are awear of these things, so its hard for them. I admire president GEJ for his efforts to combat Nigeria’s politically motivated terrorism. The federal govt should handle military payroll through the ministry of finance and be bold enough to take it off the hands of the military, from there, hence change can gradually come in.
