The Nigeria police force says it has concluded all necessary procedures to handover a 23-year-old Nigerian suspected of murder to authorities in United Kingdom (UK).

In a statement issued on Wednesday by Emmanuel Ojukwu, force public relations officer (pictured), the Nigerian (name withheld) was alleged to have killed one Carl Beatson Asiedu on August 1, 2009, in London.

He conveyed the assurance of Suleiman Abba, the inspector general of police, to the international law enforcement communities that the Nigeria police would always ensure that all fugitives that show up in Nigeria would be apprehended.

Ojukwu said the Abba further promised that such fugitives would be turned over accordingly upon request.

The statement quoted the Abba as commending police intelligence operatives for the arrest of the suspect in the United Kingdom.

Ojukwu, who said that the suspect fled to Nigeria on September 23, 2014,and stayed in Asaba, Delta state, added that he was arrested in the area after a diligent search.

“The IGP particularly praised the high level of professionalism displayed by the police operatives as well as the effective deployment of the forces’ high tech-equipment in tracking the suspect,” the statement said.

“He added that despite the fugitive’s frequent change of identity and locations, the operatives were still able to keep a tab on him without raising any suspicion.”
