Aliyu Rufai, elder brother of Nasir el-Rufai, governor of Kaduna, is dead.

Samuel Aruwan, spokesman to the governor, disclosed this in a statement on Saturday.

Rufai was said to have passed on in the early hours of Saturday in Abuja, aged 70.

He was said to have died from an undisclosed sickness.

The deceased was a retired air vice marshal. He was commissioned into the Nigerian Air Force in 1972 and he retired after 30 years in service.

He is survived by his wife, Safiya Rufai, six children, brothers and sisters.

His remains will be conveyed to Kaduna where the burial prayer is scheduled to hold at the Sultan Bello Mosque, Ungwan Sarki, by 4pm.
