Residents in Kaduna state are having mixed feelings over the outcome of the just concluded presidential election.

President Muhammadu Buhari, candidate of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) was declared winner on Wednesday by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC)and Atiku Abubakar, candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party came second.

In the northern part of Kaduna metropolis, it was celebration galore as residents of the area, mainly supporters of the APC took to the streets in jubilation when Buhari was declared winner.

A resident of who identified herself simply as Ummi said the celebrations started by 1:00am on Wednesday and lasted till dawn.

“We did not sleep at all with the celebration of Buhari’s victory. These people were going from house to house, disturbing people and knocking on our gates in the name of celebration,” she said.

The situation was said to have been same in areas like Angwan Sarki, Tudun Wada, Rigassa, Angwan Dosa and Kawo.

The city centre was deserted as most shops had remained under lock since Saturday’s election.

The city was taken over by Buhari supporters who drove round some of the streets in convoy of cars and motorcycles.

Many shops in the city centre, especially along the busy Ahmadu Bello Way, Independence Way, Lagos street and Katsina Road among others were closed following the election.

However, in the southern part of the state, there was no such celebration as everywhere was silent.

Some residents of the area, especially traders, stayed away from the city centre to “avoid any form of provocation in the name of celebrating Buhari.”

Clement Joseph, one of the residents, said, “there is nothing wrong in celebrating your victory, but when you do it provocatively in other to anger your opponent, it is better to stay away for the sake of peace.”

He added that some of them didn’t go to the city centre because they want to avoid such provocation.

Others said the fear of the outcome of the election and the recent killings in Kajuru community of the state where over 100 lives were lost made them not to open their shops.
