Manchester United have splashed the cash in their second business of the summer transfer window, signing 21-year-old full back, Aaron Wan-Bissaka, for a reported £50 million from Crystal Palace.

The club confirmed the deal with a statement released on its website on Saturday afternoon as preparations are ongoing for the new season which starts in August, with pre-season due from July.

“Manchester United is delighted to confirm the signing of Aaron Wan-Bissaka from Crystal Palace. Aaron has signed a five-year contract with an option to extend for a further year,” the statement read.

Although the club did not confirm the transfer fee, it is widely reported that Manchester United will pay £45 million upfront, with £5 million as performance-related add-ons for the England youth international who would earn £80,000 per week, an astronomical increase from his £10,000 wages at Palace, where he was the lowest paid player.

The transfer is a continuation of manager, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s transfer policy of signing young British talents to spark the rebuilding process at Old Trafford.

The club has fallen into the doldrums since the retirement of their legendary Scottish manager, Sir Alex Ferguson.

Reacting to the new signing, the delighted Norwegian coach stated that the England Under-21 defender fits the bill of hungry, talented and dedicated young players the Red Devils are looking for to return to glory days.

“Aaron is one of the best upcoming defenders in the Premier League. He has the right work ethic, talent and mentality to play for Manchester United and he fits exactly the type of player that we are looking to bring into the squad to help us improve and push further,” said the coach.

“Aaron is a young, hungry player and eager to learn and that’s important at his age. I am delighted he has signed with us and we look forward to continuing his tremendous development so far,” the United legend-turned-coach declared.

Speaking to the club media after signing his contract, a delighted Wan-Bissaka said he was honoured to be a Man United player and eager to go into the new season.

“It’s an unbelievable feeling and honour to call myself a Manchester United player and something I know that a small number of players have the privilege to say,” he said.

The Croydon-born energetic full back only broke into the first team at Crystal Palace at the end of the 2017/18 season.

He, however, became a permanent feature last season, making 35 appearances; winning the club’s Player of the Month award four times and crowned Palace’s Player of the Year.
