Ondo, Lagos, Oyo pass Amotekun bill

The Ondo, Lagos and Oyo states house of assembly, on Tuesday, passed the Amotekun bill.

Jamiu Maito, majority leader of the house in Ondo, moved the motion for the passage of the bill to establish the state security network agency and Amotekun corps bill and it was seconded by Favour Tomowemo representing Ilaje 2.

According to the bill, the chairman of the board of the security agency would be appointed by the governor, as there will also be a commander that will lead officials on the field.

Bamidele Oleyelogun, speaker of the house, noted that the passage of the bill was remarkable.

In Lagos, the house of assembly passed the bill into law by amending the state neighbourhood safety corps agency bill.

In Oyo, the lawmakers passed the state security network agency bill, code-named Operation Amotekun, into law while wearing leopard-print outfits, amulets and armbands

In Ogun, the lawmakers also passed the state security network agency and Amotekun corps bill during plenary on Tuesday.

Yusuf Sherif, majority leader of the house, moved the motion for the third reading of the bill, seconded by Olusola Adams, a member of the house.

Olakunle Oluomo, the speaker, directed that a clean copy of the bill be sent to Dapo Abiodun, the state governor, for his approval.

The Osun state house of assembly also passed the security network agency and Amotekun corps establishment bill 2020 after it was read for the third time during its plenary.

The bill was presented to the assembly on February 27, after which a public hearing held on February 24.

The Ekiti assembly had earlier passed the Amotekun bill transmitted by Kayode Fayemi, the governor, into law.

Amotekun was originally established as a regional outfit but after a series of consultations, including a meeting with Mohammed Adamu, inspector-general of police, the initiative was adopted as a state effort.
