Flying Eagles defender, Izu Omego, brought back memories of Samuel Okwaraji as medics battled for several minutes to resuscitate him during a Super 6 game between the junior national team and Kano Pillars on Monday.

Unlike Okwaraji who slumped without any contact with an opponent or the ball, Omego hit his head on the turf in an attempt to clear the ball out of danger.

Panic spread across the terraces as the player was motionless on the turf.

Medics pressed his chest and gave him oxygen I a bid to revive him. Their efforts paid off somehow, as the player recovered and was taken to an undisclosed hospitals for further attention.

Responding to the development during the post-match briefing, Flying Eagles coach, Manu Garba, said that the worst appeared to be over since the player was breathing before taken to the hospital.

On the game, Manu said he was a happy watching his boys beat Nigeria Professional Premier League champions, Kano Pillars.

“It is a sweat victory to beat back to back Premier league champions. The good thing is that we won and equally entertained the spectators. If we had converted our penalty and other chances, we would have been talking about massive victory,” he said.

The match ended 2-1 with Flying Eagles Chidera Eze missing a penalty and then conceding an own goal.
