Plateau to close borders on Thursday over coronavirus

Simon Lalong, governor of Plateau state, has ordered the closure of all borders to prevent the spread of coronavirus into the state.

Danladi Atu, secretary to the state government, said during a press conference on Wednesday in Jos, the state capital, that no one will be allowed to come in or go out of the state from Thursday evening.

He added that any group that flouts the government’s ban on gathering of over 50 people would be prosecuted.

“Let me reaffirm that so far, there is no recorded case of the disease in Plateau state, even though some suspected samples have been taken for examination; none has turned out positive,” Atu said.

“Based on assessment of the situation, Governor Simon Lalong and Chairman Plateau State COVID-19 taskforce has directed that from 6am Thursday 2nd April, 2020, all entry and exit routes out of Plateau State will be closed. No one will be allowed to come in or leave.

“Some religious organizations who flouted the order for gathering more 50 people last week have been invited by security agencies and have equally apologised and made undertaking not to violate government orders again.

“As part of the enforcement of gathering for not more than 50 people especially during religious events, any group, which disregards this directive, will be shutdown outrightly.”

On Monday, Boss Mustapha, secretary to the government of the federation (SGF), said only Lagos, Ogun and the federal capital territory territory (FCT) are on lockdown, warning against restriction of movements in other states.
