CLAIM: A post on Facebook on Tuesday, March 30, 2020, suggests that a blend of camel urine and lime can cure the deadly coronavirus (COVID-19) disease.

The post which was published in Hausa said and widely shared on Facebook with an image asked many to take a mixture of lime and camel urine to treat all cases and suspected cases of COVID-19.

FACT: The Centre for Democracy and Development (CDD) fact-checkers studied the claim and found out that the alleged recipe for COVID-19 treatment is untrue.

CDD fact-checks showed that no medical or scientific research has shown that camel urine can cure any human disease.

The checks also revealed that not even a combination of the animal urine and lime has been scientifically proved to cure COVID-19.

Also, the World Health Organisation (WHO) in several instances has warned that there is currently no known cure for the COVID-19 disease which has continued to ravage the world.

The international organisation also admonished the general public to be cautious of what they read or consume in an attempt to prevent or cure the disease.

Also, the Nigerian Centre for Disease Control has called on all Nigerians to report any suspected case of coronavirus to the centre which has COVID-19 testing centres across the six geopolitical zones in Nigeria.

Warning against self-medication in any suspected case of COVID-19, the NCDC also called for self-isolation, social distancing and staying at home to prevent the spread of the virus.

CONCLUSION: Camel urine and lime do not cure coronavirus, and as such people should disregard the claim and use only preventive measures suggested by health authorities and experts.
