The national home grown school feeding programme is set to commence in Abuja municipal area council (AMAC).

Although no specific date was given, AMAC announced on its Twitter handle that distribution of palliatives will soon commence in the council.

“The school feeding program has commenced in FCT. According to @NHGSFP, parents of children in public schools from Primary 1_3 will be given palliative. Check the picture for the breakdown of what will be given. We would flag off in AMAC soon. We have about 150 LEAs in AMAC,” the tweet read.

President Muhammadu Buhari had directed the ministry of humanitarian affairs, disaster management and social development to liaise with state governments and develop strategies for the continuation of the school feeding programme, despite the shutdown of schools across the country.

The programme, which seeks to provide food for school children while they stay at home, kicked off in Kuje area of the federal capital territory (FCT) on Thursday.

Sadiya Umar Farouq, the minister of humanitarian affairs, disaster management and social development, said the programme will impact 3,131,971 households across the country.

According to the ministry, a bag of food will contain 5kg of rice, 5kg of beans, vegetable oil, palm oil, salt, half a crate of eggs, and 40g of tomato paste.
