The federal government has announced the evacuation of 315 Nigerians from the United Arab Emirates (UAE) and Senegal.

Geoffrey Onyeama, minister of foreign affairs, disclosed this in a series of tweets on Monday.

While 298 Nigerians arrived Lagos from UAE on Monday, 17 others were brought back to Abuja from Senegal on Sunday.

He noted that the evacuees will undergo 14-day self-isolation as directed in the new guidelines issued by the presidential task force (PTF) on COVID-19.

“Earlier today, an Emirates flight conveying another 298 of our nationals departed UAE for Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Ikeja, Lagos,” Onyeama wrote.

“On arrival, all evacuees will undergo the mandatory 14 days SELF ISOLATION according to the new evacuation Protocol by PTF on COVID-19.”

The evacuation of Nigerians from other countries was initiated due to the coronavirus pandemic across the globe which has crippled diverse economies including the aviation sector.

So far, the federal government has evacuated more than 1,000 nationals from different countries including Pakistan, France and India.
