Traffic in the federal capital territory (FCT) and Port Harcourt, capital city of Rivers state, was brought to a standstill on Saturday owing to the activities of #EndSARS protesters.

For the past nine days, protesters have taken to the streets to express their frustrations and anger against police harassment and brutality, especially by operatives of the special anti-robbery squad (SARS).

Although Mohammed Adamu, inspector-general of police (IGP), announced that SARS has been disbanded, protests have continued across the country.

On Friday, the protesters in Abuja blocked the airport road and left commuters stranded for hours, despite the ban by the FCT administration against public demonstrations.

Some of the protesters also held a candle light event in the FCT to honour the victims of police brutality. Same was held in Port Harcourt.

However, on Saturday, the protesters in Port Harcourt and Abuja continued their demonstration.

The protesters in both cities also held what they referred to as prayer walks, and came out in their hundreds, blocking road intersections at intervals.

While those in Abuja began the march from Unity Fountain, Maitama district, and are currently at Wuse market, the protesters in Port Harcourt took off from Garrison at about 8am and went through the Aba expressway.

The development caused a gridlock on the Aba route which leads to the Azikiwe axis of Port Harcourt, leaving many commuters stranded.
