The Kaduna government says the presence of military helicopters in the state is part of efforts to tackle the menace of bandits.

Kaduna has witnessed a wave of attacks by bandits over the past months.

In a recent attack, at least 12 people were reportedly killed in Kidandan and Kadai villages in Giwa local government area of Kaduna.

Samuel Aruwan, Kaduna commissioner for internal security and home affairs, in a statement on Wednesday, called for calm over the “persistent presence” of military aircraft, stating that it was in the interest of ensuring the safety of residents.

“The Kaduna State Government has stated that there is no cause for alarm about the persistent presence of military helicopters in the skies over Kaduna,” the statement read.

“The helicopters and other air platforms are on security operations against bandits in several locations of interest in the state.

“Government issues this clarification to give feedback to the citizens who are genuinely committed to peace, law and order in Kaduna State.

“There is no need for apprehension about these operations. Residents of the state should ignore the false narratives being peddled about this military campaign on social media.

“The Kaduna State Government appreciates the sacrifices, commitment and patriotism of the officers and men of the Armed Forces, Police, DSS and other agencies participating in the ongoing operations across the state.”

Meanwhile, the state has relaxed the curfew imposed in its 23 local government areas and movement is now restricted from 6pm to 6am, effective Thursday.
